About JobsNode

JobsNode is a reference site about working remotely from the United States. It organizes remote work around the two things that decide whether a job actually fits your life: the state you live in and the hours you would have to keep.

Why state and time zone

Most job boards sort by role and treat "remote" as a single category. For a US worker that hides the two facts that matter most. Your state determines whether you owe state income tax on your wages, whether a second state can tax the same paycheck, and whether an employer can legally put you on payroll at all. The team's time zone determines whether a 9am standup means 9am or 6am for you.

Neither is visible on a normal listing. Both are on every page here.

What is on this site

• State pages covering how each state taxes remote wages, whether it applies a convenience-of-the-employer rule, its time zone, and the roles open to residents. 6 states currently have our own written analysis; the rest show reference data while that work is in progress.
• Job listings — 148 current roles that state they are open to US applicants, each showing the working zone and eligible states.
• Guides on remote work taxes, interstate payroll and the US remote labor market, each citing the primary sources behind its claims.

Where the data comes from

Job listings are sourced from Himalayas, a remote job board, and are shown with attribution as their terms require. JobsNode can save a candidate profile, with express consent, before sending the user to the original posting. The employer still handles the application and every hiring decision; JobsNode is not an intermediary in that process.

State tax treatment, time zones and labor market figures come from primary sources: state departments of revenue, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau. Every article cites its sources, and oureditorial policy explains the standard we hold them to. The overlap calculations are explained in full on themethodology page.

What this site is not

We are not a recruiter, staffing agency or employer, and we do not accept payment from employers to feature roles. Nothing here is tax or legal advice: state rules change between legislative sessions, and a decision about where you live and pay tax should be checked against the primary source or with an accountant.

How the site makes money

JobsNode is supported by display advertising. Ads are clearly distinguishable from editorial content, and advertisers have no input into what we write. If we ever add affiliate links, they will be disclosed on the page where they appear.
