Not tax, legal or financial advice

JobsNode explains how state tax rules generally apply to remote workers. It is general information, not advice about your circumstances, and no professional relationship is created by reading it.

State income tax, residency and payroll rules are genuinely complicated. They turn on facts we do not know about you — where you are domiciled, how many days you work in each state, what your employer has established where, and which reciprocity agreements apply. Two people with the same job and the same salary can owe very different amounts depending on those details.

Before acting on anything here, consult a qualified tax professional. That is especially true before moving states, changing where you work from, or filing in more than one state.

Tax rules change

Legislatures change rates, thresholds and rules every session, and courts reinterpret them. Information here reflects our understanding when the page was written, with the date shown. We update pages when we learn of changes, but we cannot promise every page reflects the law today. The linked primary source is authoritative; this site is not.

Job listings

Listings are supplied by a third-party job board and reflect what the employer published. We do not verify that a role is still open, that the pay is accurate, or that the employer will hire in every state it claims. Employers withdraw roles and change requirements without notice.

We are not an employer, recruiter or staffing agency, and we take no part in hiring decisions. JobsNode may save a candidate profile and CV with consent, but the actual application is made on the employer's or job board's site under its terms.

Time zone calculations

Overlap figures are arithmetic based on stated or inferred time zones and an assumed working day, explained in full on the methodology page. They describe what a typical schedule would look like — not a commitment by any employer about hours, flexibility or meeting times. Confirm working hours with the employer.
