How Florida taxes remote wages

Florida has no personal income tax and its constitution prohibits one, so remote wages go untaxed at the state level. Florida is the most common destination for remote workers leaving high-tax states, which is exactly why those departures draw scrutiny: New York and California both audit claimed moves, and keeping a home, a driver license or a family base in the old state undermines the claim. Establishing Florida residency properly means filing a declaration of domicile, getting a Florida license, and genuinely spending the time there.

Working remotely from Florida

Florida spans Eastern and Central zones, but Miami, Orlando, Tampa and Jacksonville all sit in Eastern, putting nearly all of the state on the default US meeting zone. Miami has built a real technology and remote-work employer presence since 2020. Hurricane season is a genuine operational consideration that workers in other states never think about: power and internet outages between June and November are frequent enough that some employers ask remote staff for a continuity plan.
